Summary

University of Michigan Health-Facilities Administration is seeking a high energy and team-oriented individual to join the department as an intern for the summer of 2024.  This Intern's primary responsibility will be assisting Engineers on a variety of Energy Conservation and Design projects in UM Health facilities.

Responsibilities*

  • Assisting with Energy Management tasks such as utility bill analysis and building benchmarking, Lighting Audits, Optimization of Systems Operations.
  • Perform data analysis to identify Energy Conservation opportunities.
  • Assisting with retro commissioning efforts of HVAC systems including identification of operational issues at site locations and writing of work orders to make corrections.
  • Aid in the development of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) including energy calculations, estimating project costs, estimating annual energy savings, CO2 emission avoidance, and simple paybacks. 
  • Review HVAC, lighting, and control drawings, control sequences of operations, and specifications.
  • Assisting with applications for Utility rebates for qualifying ECMs. 
  • Walk through mechanical rooms with Engineers to identify equipment operational issues and/or opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist hospital engineers in operational problem solving, project scoping and historical information archival.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduate of, or enrolled student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial & Operations Engineering program.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
