Summary
The Pediatric Neurology Division of the University of Michigan Health System brings together the expertise and specialized skills of a multidisciplinary staff devoted to promoting optimal care for infants, children and adolescents with neurological problems. The primary mission of the clinic is to partner with our doctors, nurses and other providers to deliver excellent care and customer service. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and self-driven Patient Services Associate. Responsibilities*
Provide operational support to the Pediatric Neurology, EEG, and Epilepsy Program. Coordinate and facilitate communication between physicians, nurse providers, dietitians, and patients regarding issues relevant to the medical care. Assist in identifying and resolving operational problems. Individual must maintain an excellent rapport in person or via the telephone with patients, faculty, and staff, within a team setting. Participate fully in the Lean in Daily Work (LIDW) model of continuous quality improvement. The role includes:
- Answer incoming patient calls for pediatric EEG Lab
- Schedule routine EEG appointments and navigate EEG order work queue
- Coordinate ketogenic diet education appointments and admissions
- Schedule complex epilepsy appointments, coordinated neurology and dietitian appointments, and social work visits
- Billing entry and reconciliation
- Insurance verification and insurance appeal coordination
- Schedule pre-procedure COVID testing
- Update ketogenic diet tracking spreadsheets and follow-up on outstanding requests
- Provide back-up coverage for various scheduling and administrative tasks
- Maintain inventory of office supplies, patient supplies, and brochures
- Manage pediatric neurology and EEG office mail, including mailing of patient documents
- Scan clinical documents into Michart
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
- High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience
- Experience and proficiency in utilizing computer including standard business computing programs and/or EMR.
- Must have a solid knowledge of general office practices and ability to understand medical documentation
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- Demonstrated active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
- Ability to manage stress effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively and seamlessly as an integral member of the team.
- Track record of observing and executing patient confidentiality protocol.
- Ability to take initiatives and exercise critical thinking skill to effectively solve problems and improve quality with the framework of patient care support protocols.
Desired Qualifications*
- 2-3 years? experience within a large, complex healthcare system.
- Experience with pediatric population.
- Solid understanding of computer systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in Medical Terminology.
- Previous experience with MiChart Cadence/Epic system.
- Seek constructive approached to resolving workplace issues.
- Responds positively to change, showing willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work.
- Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility, and consistently sharing information and resources with others.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
Work Schedule
This is a full time Monday-Friday hybrid position, with 1-2 days per week remote. The first several weeks of training will be onsite and our remote work schedule is dependent on in-office needs.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
