Job Summary

Join the Information and Technology Services (ITS) team at the University of Michigan as a Lead Microsoft Active Directory/Azure Administrator, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping our Identity and Access Management services. This position offers the chance to make a significant impact by designing, managing, and enhancing services built on the Microsoft Active Directory and Azure/Entra ID platforms. Reporting to the IAM Engineering Supervisor within the Information Assurance department, you'll leverage your extensive experience and technical leadership skills to build solutions to build and maintain secure and efficient access management solutions.

This position is eligible for a hybrid or fully remote work arrangement. The selected candidate will be required to complete a Remote Work Agreement which is reviewed and renewed on an annual basis, per University guidelines and business needs. This position may require on-call availability and working during non-business hours.

Responsibilities 

  • Design, implement, and support identity management services using Microsoft Active Directory and Azure/Entra ID.
  • Analyze business needs to engineer and implement secure solutions.
  • Monitor and audit systems and services for performance, availability, and disaster preparedness. 
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Active Directory/Entra ID for projects and troubleshooting.
  • Identify and implement security and operational improvements.
  • Develop technical partnerships across teams to enhance IT services.
  • Identify and implement security and operational improvements in our IT environment.
  • Maintain documentation of procedures and configurations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in a large/enterprise setting, with a strong background in Active Directory and Azure/Entra ID.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.

  • Professional certifications.
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with modern programming practices.
  • A passion for learning and applying new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems.
  • Experience building and supporting information technology services at a higher education institution.
