Summary
This 1 year fellowship (opportunity to be extended) is a program to foster development of quantitative research skills required of a pharmacy informatics clinician and researcher. Improve patient safety and patient medication use on projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) with leading edge machine learning algorithms. Work at the world-class University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in one of the best places to live, Ann Arbor, MI. Our overarching goal is to foster development of pharmacy informatics skills that increase your competitiveness for a position in academia, industry, or a regulatory environment.
Fellows will have immediate opportunities to participate in NIH and AHRQ funded projects involving the design, development, testing, and implementation of machine learning tools to improve patient safety. Fellows will gain deep knowledge of R, Python, and other software tools to accomplish project aims.
What You'll Do
Ensure the safe and effective use of medications by patients through the use pharmacy informatics
- Support development, testing, and implementation of informatics tools to support healthcare delivery
- Study natural language processing, computer vision, and other machine learning algorithms
- Identify ways to utilize machine learning to improve care for patients
- Grantsmanship (Industry, NIH, AHRQ, NSF)
- Protocol development
- Regulatory submissions (e.g., Institutional Review Board)
- Research study project management
- Present work at professional meetings and author scientific publications
Required Qualifications*
- PhD, PharmD, MD, or DO from an accredited university or equivalent
- Experience and coursework in patient safety and/or pharmacy informatics (e.g., use of R, Python, or other informatics tools)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, ethics, professionalism, and ability to work in a diverse, team-based environment
