Summary

The University of Michigan Athletic Department is seeking qualified applicants for a Special Assistant to the Head Coach to support the NCAA DI men's basketball program. Duties include: lead special projects; analysis for purposes of program and player development; analyze film of opponents to contribute to the development of game strategy in coaches meetings; assist coordinating video operations for the program; assist in coordinating aspects of team travel; utilize computer editing software to prepare reports and/or videos used in recruiting, instructional purposes, and analysis; prepare reports. Position will attend daily practices and competitions. The position will be responsible for helping foster an environment that promotes the well-being and personal development of the student-athletes. Responsible for a commitment to adhering to university, Big 10 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, and regulations. Establish and maintain effective interactions with the university community, alumni, media and the public.

The position requires in-depth knowledge of competitive basketball along with high work ethic and exceptional skills in organization, video analysis and communication. 
 

Responsibilities*

  • Assist with special video and or administrative projects and support as assigned by the Head Coach 15%
  • Oversee Graduate Manager on the coordination of the Head Coaches officiating evaluations 5 %
  • Assists the Video Coordinator to compile and provide initial analysis of future opponents 20%
  • Oversee Team Blue Student Manager program 5 %
  • Assist in Creating specialized recruiting film edits and statistical analysis 5 %
  • Complete other Duties assigned by the Head Coach, Director of Operations and Director of Program Personnel 15%
  • Assists in Organizing Team Travel, meals, and practice times 5%
  • Assist in Coordinating Visiting team Shoot-arounds and schedules 5%
  • Assist in coordinating on-campus official and unofficial visits, and in developing recruiting materials 5%
  • Create and coordinate special statistical and analytics project sand requests from coaching staff 15 %
  • Co-liaison to the Academic Success program 5%

Required Qualifications*

  • 2-3 years of administrative support experience.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the NCAA Compliance rules.
  • Able to interact and communicate with all individuals at all levels of the organization.
     

Desired Qualifications*

  • Must have four-year college degree.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • NCAA Basketball working or playing experience.
  • Experience with Mac and PC operating systems.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience using Hudl/Sportscode video editing software.
  • Work well in work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and time sensitive demands.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop).
