Summary

20 hour MSW position serving as both the Living Donor Social Worker and the Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA) for the Kidney and Liver Transplant Programs.

As a member of this team, you will play a vital role in the evaluation and care of living donors as they consider the decision to donate as well as in both pre- and post-donation phases of care. Candidates should have experience in transplantation and/or living organ donation, medical ethics, and informed consent. An awareness of and skill in assessment of family dynamics and the impact this may have on a living donor's decision to donate is a crucial component of this role. This position has both outpatient and inpatient responsibilities and serves the kidney and liver living donor populations.

This position will serve the roles of both the Living Donor Social Worker and the Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA). The ILDA role is a CMS-mandated position and is responsible for representing and advising the donor, protecting and promoting the interests of the donor, and ensuring that the donor's decision is informed and free of coercion. Candidates must be able to work independently and be comfortable advocating with the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for:

  •          Comprehensive psychosocial assessments to assess living donation suitability and decision to donate as well as identification of other psychosocial factors that may require additional follow up.
  •          Participation in interdisciplinary Transplant Evaluation meetings and rounds and presentation of psychosocial and ILDA recommendations related to donor candidacy.
  •           Working with interprofessional team members in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  •          Connecting to both internal and external community resources for continuity of care and providing families/social support networks additional support as needed.
  •          Advocating for appropriate accommodations.
  •          Participation in transplant continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  •           Development, evaluation, and collaboration on supportive programming to enhance the patient/family experience.
  •           Provision of referrals and follow-up to community resources as needed.
  •           Participation in team and department meetings.
  •           Cross coverage support within Transplant Social Work team.
  •           Important skills for this position include: excellent verbal and written communication skills, precise and timely documentation, independent decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize multiple, competing tasks.

Required Qualifications*

  •         A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  •         A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan. Full LMSW licensure is required for this position.
  •         Three years of experience in transplantation and/or organ donation.

Desired Qualifications*

  •         Significant experience in transplant and/or organ donation.
  •         Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  •         Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
  •         Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  •         Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
  •         Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  •         Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification.

Background Screening
