Responsibilities*

Reports to:  Associate Director, Integrated Data Services

Supervises:  N/A

The Office of University Development is seeking a Data Strategist (Business Systems Analyst Senior) to join our team. As a Data Strategist, you will help manage and curate data sets, documenting data processes, and leading data projects. Your expertise in information science, coupled with your experience in data curation and project management, will contribute to the success of the University of Michigan development community.

Responsibilities: 

30% Data Curation - Including the curation and maintenance of a comprehensive collection of data sets and data products related to fundraising activities, ensuring data quality, retrievability, accuracy, and integrity.

30% Data Project Management - Including collaborating with cross-functional teams and a variety of stakeholders; managing and leading high-impact data projects from inception to completion including but not limited to data integration enhancements, fundraising CRM interface enhancements, and data lake development.

30% Information Governance and Documentation - Including creating and implementing an information governance strategy for the data teams across the Development Services and Strategic Solutions (DS3) department.  

10% Other - Including staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data management and curation, and applying them to enhance data-related processes within the development community.

Required Qualifications*

  •              Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Information Science, Computer Science, Library Science, or Data Management (or equivalent professional experience).
  •              Minimum of 4 years of experience in libraries, data management, data curation, or a related field.
  •              Strong knowledge of data curation principles, information governance best practices, metadata, and standards.
  •              Proficiency in data documentation techniques and tools, such as data dictionaries and metadata repositories.
  •              Project Management: Experience managing complex technical projects that span across teams. 
  •              Familiarity with data analysis tools (such as Tableau, SQL, and SAP Business Objects) and techniques, and the ability to assist in data analysis.
  •              Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
  •              Demonstrated technical aptitude and technical curiosity.
  •              A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
