Summary

Custodial Services provides cleaning services to University of Michigan administrative and academic buildings on the Ann Arbor campus. We service over 13 million square feet of floor space in over 250 buildings. Custodial Services employs over 400 people consisting of custodial, pest management, support, administrative, and managerial staff.

The successful candidate(s) will join a highly motivated specialty Quick Response Team that primarily focuses on customer requests, project work, floor care, and responding to emergencies, water and snow events, and special events. 

The standard work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm-10:30 pm, however, depending on emergency situations or customer requirements, work hours and/or overtime will be required to be altered on short notice.

Responsibilities*

  • Respond to major floods within university buildings
  • Maintain critical snow removal routes and may deliver salt supplies as needed
  • Perform low-level biohazard cleaning (as defined by the Environment, Health, and Safety department)
  • Clean up and preparation of decommissioned labs
  • Perform specialized cleaning, including outdoor graffiti removal, mold cleaning, window washing, carpet and mat cleaning, and wall washing
  • Operate all custodial equipment and perform duties and project work related to routine and non-routine floor work including, but not limited to, hard surface floor stripping and refinishing, carpet deep extraction, and stone polishing and buffing
  • Perform all duties of a Custodian I & II and other related tasks as assigned 

Required Qualifications*

  • Floor care experience
  • A valid driver's license with less than 7 points
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate customer work requests
  • Ability to work overtime before shift, after shift, and/or on weekends for emergency and special events
  • Ability to move items and equipment weighing 50+ pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders to clean fixtures and areas above 7 feet
  • Ability to obtain specialty cleaning certifications such as mold remediation and bird/animal feces removal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform data entry and use Google Apps (Forms, Sheets, and Docs)
