Summary
DPSS leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Reporting to the Director of DEI & Organizational Culture, the Associate Director of DEI and Organizational Culture will lead the Division's strategic DEI plan and support the director in developing culture initiatives and programs in conjunction with the University's DEI strategic plan. Responsibilities*
You will:
- Lead division-wide implementation of the DEI strategic plan through collaboration with departments, DPSS leadership, and university DEI leaders
- Spearhead the DPSS DEI Implementation team, including facilitating team engagements and programming to advance DEI principles across our division
- Along with the DPSS DEI Implementation Team, lead the development of DEI training, education, and engagement activities to increase awareness of DEI principles and measure the progress of these programs
- Assist the Director of DEI & Organizational Culture in developing and leading employee engagement projects and initiatives such as engagement and climate surveys, recognition programs, and the Staff Advisory Team
- Partner with our communications department and other DPSS leadership to ensure inclusive branding and communication strategies
- Collaborate with DPSS departments to ensure inclusive customer service protocols and practices
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure DEI is accounted for throughout the employee's journey, including hiring, workplace accessibility, employee relations, and retention efforts
- Co-lead on University committees dealing with diversity, equity, and inclusion, including student engagement groups such as the DPSS Student Advisory Board, U-M student affinity groups, and others deemed necessary or appropriate
- Engage our U-M communities through active leadership in University DEI meetings, conferences, and discussions about increasing and enhancing an inclusive and safe experience for the campus community
- Partner with human resource and organizational effectiveness functions through a DEI lens to impact division culture, such as student programs, employee engagement, talent acquisition, and retention practices
- Co-facilitate the DPSS Student Advisory Board and partner on initiatives with DPSS Community Engagement, and other community-focused events
- Establish DEI priorities, including policy development and implementation, in alignment with our mission, vision, and values
- Develop partnerships through collaboration with external and internal partners, including leadership, students, staff, faculty, and alumni
- Design DEI programming, priorities, and goals that include cultural awareness, bias assessments, and resources
- Co-lead student programming, including student employees, local college and university public safety exposure programs, and our Student Advisory Board
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree
- Five years of progressively responsible leadership experience
- Substantive experience leading DEI, social justice, or related programming, training, or education
- Two years experience in human resources, organizational development, effectiveness, change management, or related field
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite platforms
- Experience solving complex problems
- Demonstrated organizational abilities to establish priorities, plan and complete projects, and ensure structured delivery of project objectives
- Demonstrated past success in conveying ideas, building rapport, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders through multiple mediums
- Knowledge of current theoretical frameworks related to DEI
- Proficiency in gathering, assessing, and presenting data

- All Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) members are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
- The work schedule is primarily regular business hours; however, the person in this position must be able to adjust their schedule for operational priorities. This position will be onsite in Ann Arbor, MI, and will require travel to multiple locations on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses. Based on business needs, this role is open to hybrid work with 1-2 remote days per week. Remote work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending on business needs.
