Summary

The Communications Specialist will provide ongoing support for U-M Health and U-M Health communicators, as well as support of the U-M Health Enterprise triad as needed. This role will report to the U-M Health Communications Manager and be a part of the Department of Communication Internal and Executive Communications team.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans to optimize engagement and transparency within U-M Health segments, with implementation tactics and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with U-M Health communications team to create synergies across segments and help manage ongoing projects and initiatives. 
  • Create written and graphical content to implement effective employee communication through various channels, including intranet and SharePoint content for U-M Health sites. 
  • Contribute to employee engagement and organizational positive culture by supporting key team initiatives. 
  • Work with other internal team and DOC team members to increase synergies and share content across the organization.
  • Translate technical or strategic topics into easily consumed, appropriate communication tailored to various internal audiences.
  • Partner with the creative services team to utilize digital, web and social media resources to amplify communication strategies and tactics.
  • Develop, track and monitor data driven communication goals and metrics that are strategic, measurable, timely and realistic. 

This role will serve as a point-of-contact for U-M Health internal communication activities and provide support for other U-M Health team members. As a member of this centralized team, the specialist can have access to resources and support of the larger Department of Communication, which includes creative services, web, video, graphics, social media, data analytics, digital resources, and marketing.

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in communication-related field, such as journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or other relevant field.
  • Proven experience generating client satisfaction and developing solutions in complex matrixed organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with solid understanding of digital media.
  • Experience maintaining electronic communication vehicles, websites, blogs, social media.
  • Ability to work well with others and willingness to accept feedback.
  • Flexibility in work schedule for primarily remote work and on-site presence as needed.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Direct experience in a health care and/or academic medical center.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
