  • PUBHLTH 360: Community, Culture, and Social Justice in Public Health-Tu/Th 1 - 2:20 pm
  • PUBHLTH 370: Public Health Biology and Pathophysiology-u/Th 11:30 am - 12:50 pm + discussion sections
  • PUBHLTH 381: Public Health Systems Achievements and Challenges-M/W 10 - 11:20 am
  • PUBHLTH 384: Creating Change in Public Health-M/W 10 - 11:20 am
  • PUBHLTH 481: Public Health Practice and Professionalism-T/Th 4 - 6 pm

Responsibilities*

GSI duties vary by course but may include teaching discussion sections, helping prepare course lectures and other class materials, exam proctoring, grading student assessments, holding office hours, and regular teaching team meetings. Candidates should expect to perform these duties in-person. All positions may have a limited number of hours required outside of class for grading meetings (10 hours per semester). Faculty will work with GSIs to schedule these meetings.


All first time GSIs (those who have not previously taught at the University of Michigan) will be required to attend CRLT's Teaching Orientation as a term of their employment.

Required Qualifications*

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled as a graduate student in good standing at the University of Michigan.
  • Ability to effectively teach and evaluate undergraduate students.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Broad knowledge of varied aspects of public health
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom
  • Doctoral students with Master's degree preferred
  • Previous GSI experience with favorable student evaluations

Decision Making Process

Dr. Youatt, Director of the Office of Undergraduate Education, will review complete applications. Selected candidates will be contacted for interviews in March. Every effort will be made to notify all applicants regarding a hiring decision by Friday, April 26, 2024.

Selection Process

Criteria for GSI Selection:  

  • Enrollment demand
  • GSI stated preference
  • Faculty preference
  • Relevant experience
  • The number of GSIs hired will depend on enrollment in these courses
