Summary
The Social Environment and Health Program (SEH) in the Survey Research Center at the Institute for Social Research examines social inequalities in health, including the role of structural and cultural racism, toxic and built environments, climate change, infectious disease, and the molecular pathways linking neighborhood context to health inequalities. We are seeking a full-time research associate, who will primarily coordinate an NIH funded project: the Weatherization and Health Effects (WHE) study (PI: Carina Gronlund). You will coordinate and conduct project tasks for a research project on the potential neuropsychological and sleep health benefits of weatherizing homes in Detroit, Tennessee, and Milwaukee. Additionally, you will conduct study project tasks, including data sharing across several sites and co-investigators, scheduling meetings and symposia, assisting with IRB applications, assisting with literature reviews, and assisting with manuscript and presentation preparation as requested.
Responsibilities*
Project Coordination (50%)
You will be the primary person supporting all project-specific coordination. These tasks include:
Coordinate communication among research team members at multiple institutions, between team members, and between organizations
Coordinate and assist with participant enrollment, compensation, and data collection from surveys and devices across multiple sites
Coordinate research team meetings, which includes scheduling, maintaining agenda items, and recordkeeping
Coordinate activities between the principal investigator and other internal/external research team members to ensure that tasks and timelines are maintained
Assist with and manage staff in the initialization of study devices (e.g., accelerometers), offloading data from the devices, verifying data accuracy and completeness, and mailing devices and other study materials to and from sites and study participants
Assist team with primary and secondary data cleaning, organization, and preparation for analysis
Research Related Tasks (25%)
In this position, you will assist with research-specific tasks on several externally funded research projects. Those tasks include:
Prepare, submit, and edit IRB applications
Assist faculty with grant preparation
Assist team with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations (both text and data) related to funded research projects
Assist team with literature searches and reviews
Other Tasks (25%)
In addition to other activities related to externally funded research, you will coordinate communication and assist with some activities related to faculty mentoring activities. These activities include:
Work with team staff to maintain project, lab, and mentoring website and project internet presence
Other duties as assigned within an overall project management scope of work
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree
2+ years of successful project management or study coordination experience
Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to deadline
Careful attention to detail
Ability to both work independently and as an effective team member
Substantial experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
Desired Qualifications*
Master's degree
Experience in R, Stata, SAS, and/or SQL
Experience in survey software, e.g., REDCap or Qualtrics
Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PgMP, PfMP) or certification in clinical research coordination (e.g., CCRP, CRA), or an equivalent of either
Strong interest in the topics of health inequities, energy justice, environmental racism, and/or climate justice
