The programs guiding principle: The optimal inpatient experience includes specialty experiences balanced with general medicine and critical care exposure. The resident assistant role maximizes time for education. Designed to help teams with non-medical patient care tasks. At the University Hospital, each service has a resident assistant that performs clerical and other support tasks for the team by promoting quality, service excellence, patient- and family-centered care, and maximize throughput by serving as the primary administrative, clinical support coordinating all non-physician tasks directly related to patient care such as scheduling or coordination of tests for same day/next day, medical records requests in coordination with bed placement, and post-hospital follow-up care prior to discharge. RAs are central to communication, logistics management, and bridging the gap between the inpatient and outpatient settings by helping connect the dots between care team members and transitions of care programs.
