Summary

The Patient Services Associate (PSA) is an integral member of the EAA Psychiatry Rachel Upjohn Building clinic at University of Michigan Health. This PSA position is a member of our clinic front desk team that completes patient check-in, patient check-out, return visit scheduling, and other key operational workflows. The PSA may also participate in projects and process improvement initiatives within the clinic and in association with larger system goals.

Responsibilities*

  • Accurately and efficiently schedule patient appointments utilizing Cadence within Epic.
  • Management of pre-arrival functions to assure all necessary information has been obtained for clinic visits.
  • Monitor waiting area activity and assure a clean, organized, and safe environment.
  • Promote personal comfort and convenience of patients and families by routinely checking their needs.
  • Process and compile patient paperwork for appointments.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and triage to the appropriate location.
  • Call patients and remind them of upcoming appointments.
  • Utilize paging systems to contact appropriate staff and faculty as required.
  • Reconcile clinic cash collections and credit card transactions daily according to specified clinic standards.
  • Participate in creating efficient patient flow by coordinating with nursing, medical assistant, social worker staff, and faculty.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. 
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Prior experience performing routine scheduling.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
  • Expected to be proficient in identifying problems, seeking, and implementing solutions.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

Work Locations

This position will primarily work onsite at East Ann Arbor Psychiatry, which is located at the Rachel Upjohn Building. There is a possibility of working remotely on a consistent basis depending on what is needed to support clinic operations.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
