Summary
The Cancer Data Science (CDS) Shared Resource of the Rogel Cancer Center (Rogel) at the University of Michigan is recruiting a CDS Program Manager. The mission of CDS is to enhance the scientific excellence of Rogel research by providing biostatistical, bioinformatics and clinical informatics support across the spectrum of basic, translational, clinical and population sciences research. CDS consists of highly trained quantitative scientists (16 faculty and 10 staff analysts) who assist Rogel investigators to execute data analyses and conceptualize and develop research projects and clinical trials. CDS personnel collaborate with Rogel members for dissemination of analytical findings in the form of inferences and hypotheses for validation and interpretations for publication. We are seeking a talented, experienced, highly motivated, and organized individual to assist in leading and overseeing the daily activities of CDS. The CDS Program Manager will report to and assist the CDS leadership in all operations of project management. The CDS Program Manager will support the responsibility for CDS programming, directing daily operations and management of the program including management of staff, budget oversight, and development.
Responsibilities*
- Manages the daily operations of CDS, primarily in the areas of administration, human resources, and financial management.
- Collaborates with CDS leadership and Rogel Quantitative Data Sciences and Shared Resource leadership to establish and accomplish goals and strategies for CDS
- Oversees financial operations, encompassing budgeting and monitoring/forecasting expenditures.
- Manages portfolio of incoming project requests, active projects, aligns budgets and timelines, allocation of projects amongst personnel, allocation of personnel effort and budgets, and communication with principal investigators.
- Assists the CDS directors in: developing proposals, budgets, scope of work for new and continuing funding; coordinates and oversees grant preparation and submission; oversees the implementation of grants subcontracts/subaccounts for which CDS is responsible; prepares progress reports.
- Contributes to multidisciplinary research efforts across the cancer center through: analyses and assists in grant writing endeavors for collaborative grants; co-authors, revises, and drafts peer-reviewed manuscripts and analytical sections of grant proposals.
- Collaborates on the cancer center support grant competing and non-competing renewals.
- Tracks key metrics for CDS (users, timelines, revenue, user-satisfaction).
- Represents CDS on outreach activities to the institutional community.
- Works with the CDS Directors to define directions for growth along newer and scientifically relevant areas of cancer data science.
- Coordinates website updates, event planning and organizes seminars, conferences, workshops, socials, and other CDS events
Required Qualifications*
- Masters or PhD in biostatistics, bioinformatics, data science, computer science, engineering, or quantitatively-focused degree and 7+ years of related experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, written communication, and collaborative skills with a commitment to creating a positive work environment
- Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills, ability and desire to work independently, be part of a team, and show initiative
- Experience in research program management in biomedical/health settings would be desirable
