Summary

AMA Patient Financial Counselor duties may include:

  •           Gather information for prescription insurance coverage, home pharmacy, and preferred pharmacy of choice for prescription filling.
  •           Facilitate resolution of prior authorizations, insurance barriers, and other medication access issues.
  •           Close collaboration with clinic leadership and MM Specialty Pharmacy on process improvements
  •           Collect data to determine process and outcomes measures of program.
  •           Assist with problem solving and process improvements relevant to the program.
  •           Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor to facilitate safe and efficient medication-related access.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •          Obtain detailed insurance benefit information including but not limited to; appropriate billing information (medical vs prescription covered benefit), retail and mail order prescription co-pays, network pharmacies, plan formulary, prior authorization requirements, appeal letters, and other necessary information to successfully adjudicate medication claim.
  •           Evaluate medication orders to determine appropriate non-clinic interventions, including prior authorizations, appeal, and financial assistance.
  •           Troubleshoot complex billing issues (insurance/prior authorization, coordination of benefits etc) and resolve as able and/or appropriate.
  •           Identify, assist and submit patient assistance program forms when applicable.
  •           Research formulary alternatives for medications prescribed to patients.
  •           Work closely with clinic teams, insurance companies and pharmacies for medication access issues.
  •           Document all patient interactions in appropriate systems and databases.
  •           Identify, develop, and implement additional quality improvement projects and processed including LEAN projects in cooperation with the AMA, PFC, and Specialty Pharmacy team and other stakeholders.
  •           Proficient use of MM systems including but not limited to: QS1, MiChart, Excel, Word, and Jabber systems.
  •           Apply the skills, principles and behaviors of the Michigan Expectations Model and demonstrate personal leadership and responsibility.
  •           Implement cross coverage when possible.
  •           Position is Hybrid (Majority of position remote with required onsite shifts determined by leadership).
  •           Other duties as assigned.

This position will be providing support to TC General GI Clinic.

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English. Strong communication skills, professionalism, ability to work well with members of an interdisciplinary team, and ability to provide service excellence are also required.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Minimum of one year pharmacy technician experience in an outpatient or retail pharmacy setting and completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence with direct patient interaction, collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, insurance claim adjudication, prior authorization facilitation, and prescription processing in a retail pharmacy setting is also highly desired.
  • Pharmacy Technician Licensure is desired but not required.

Work Schedule

This is a day shift position, Monday- Friday.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
