This position will report to the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) Financial Manager and join a diverse workforce and exceptional team of financial and administrative professionals who support the U-M research community (research labs, Principal Investigators, sponsored programs, ULAM service units). ULAM is hiring an accounts payable clerk senior or intermediate. This position is responsible for data entry for service billing, review of billing reports to upload into our database and support of charge transfers to assist laboratories adjusting charges between accounts, downloading reports from other billing databases and inputting into our internal billing system. In addition, this position will work directly with laboratory staff who need support on their billing and may assist in processing employee expenses for reimbursement requests for payment.

This position is in a fast paced, hard-working Unit. The variety of services ULAM provides allow for accelerated learning and networking with many other parts of the University. The work of our finance team is critical to the success of faculty, management, and the unit. The ideal candidate will organize, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner and must be able to handle confidential data with discretion. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, and demonstrated organizational skill including attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines. We are seeking an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, helping where needed, but who is also comfortable working independently on specific reoccurring tasks.

Responsibilities*

  • Maintains, analyzes, and reconciles accounts payable ERAM records
  • Develops, directs, plans, and evaluate accounts payable policies and procedures
  • Ensures University and departmental financial policies are adhered to
  • Scans and attaches packing slips in ERAM to corresponding purchase
  • Manages invoices and entering data into ERAM
  • Handles weekly accounts payable transactions, understanding and managing POs
  • Assists in creating accurate documentation for each transaction
  • Maintains and updates purchase records in ERAM as needed
  • Enters weekly service charges into ERAM
  • Collaborates with finance team for reconciling trouble shooting accounts payable related issues
  • Creates and maintains procedural manuals for data entry process
  • Handles customer inquiries related to service charges and shortcode use

Required Qualifications*

Accounting Clerk Senior

  • High school diploma and at least 4 years of experience working with data-entry billing or accounts receivable work.
  • Proficient in PC-based computer programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe
  • Attention to detail and skills to identify errors and make corrections.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a dependable attendance record
  • Ability to work onsite for some or all of their work hours.  This is an on-site position with the possibility of hybrid schedule after training.

Accounting Clerk Intermediate

  • High school diploma and at least 2 years of experience working with data-entry billing or accounts receivable work.
  • Proficient in PC-based computer programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe
  • Attention to detail and skills to identify errors and make corrections.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a dependable attendance record
  • Ability to work onsite for some or all of their work hours. This is an on-site position with the possibility of hybrid schedule after training.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience with eRAM database and/or proposal/protocol management.
  • Experience in accounting or education in accounting.
  • Knowledge of U-M financial systems such as short codes and project grants.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
