Summary

The burn team within the Division of Acute Care Surgery is seeking a Research Area Specialist with health services research interest and experience.

Responsibilities*

The Research Area Specialist will assist the project and study team in:

  • Working with the Principal Investigator on study design and data interpretation.
  • Collaboration with the team analyst on data analysis.
  • Performing literature reviews.
  • Assisting in preparation of manuscript drafts for peer-reviewed journals and submission of manuscripts.
  • Obtaining patient consent for a study and enrolling patients in studies.
  • Patient chart review if required for a study.
  • Other project tasks as assigned by the burn team.

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in a recognized filed of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
  • 4-5 years of experience in a related filed 
  • Prior health-related or research experience with demonstrated interest in health services research.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with EndNote or similar reference management software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated proactive behavior and solution oriented; high attention to detail.
  • Organized, effective, and timely communication with the study team and others via email and phone.
  • Ability and commitment to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent (MBBS, DO), or Master's degree (background in health sciences/MPH preferred) - completed or in progress.
  • Supervisory and financial experience preferred.

Additional Information

This is a 2-year term-limited position. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
