Summary
The University of Michigan School of Public Health seeks an experienced, dynamic leader and public health scholar to lead its renowned Department of Health Behavior and Health Education (HBHE) and steward its unwavering mission to ensure health access and equity for populations in its surrounding communities, across the nation, and around the globe.
Reporting directly to Dean F. DuBois Bowman, the chair of HBHE will be an integral part of the school's academic leadership team. The chair will work collaboratively and proactively with school leaders, faculty, students, and staff; with partners in other schools, colleges, and units across the university; and with external stakeholders to advance the mission and goals of the University of Michigan, the School of Public Health, and the Department of HBHE.
The next chair will build upon HBHE's longstanding commitment to health equity, advancing health, reducing preventable illness, and promoting equitable health outcomes through the application of research, teaching, service, and practice that promotes health and quality of life within and across diverse population groups.
The Department of Health Behavior and Health Education is comprised of 40 faculty, who are recognized for their innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching to enhance the health and well-being of communities and promote health equity. The dynamic person will play a leadership role building upon the department's legacy of advancing health, reducing preventable illness, and promoting health equity through the application of research, teaching, service, and practice that promotes health and quality of life within and across diverse population
Required Qualifications*
The School of Public Health seeks a leader with an exemplary record of research, scholarship, and practice; prominence in one's field; a strong, demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion, including to the success of underrepresented individuals; experience in academic administration; and a record of mentorship and professional development of faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline. Candidates with relevant expertise in areas including but not limited to health behavior, health equity, community engagement via models such as community-based participatory research, health communication, and health promotion, as well as with nontraditional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
