Summary

The Section of Vascular Surgery seeks to fill a Research Laboratory Specialist Intermediate full-time position to work in our vascular research lab.  The candidate will work closely on research projects in the laboratory of Principal Investigator Dr. Frank Davis.  The research in this lab works to improve understanding of the biological mechanisms that contribute to diabetic wound healing, aortic aneurysm development and other vascular disease.

Responsibilities*

The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a team to conduct, develop and design moderately complex research experiments utilizing immunohistochemistry, PCR, ELISA and CHIP.  Review progress and evaluate results of experiments.

Lab Management:

  • Oversight of day-to-day lab operations
  • Maintain supply inventory; order supplies
  • Manage animal colonies
  • Maintain OSEH compliance, IACUC protocols and IRB applications

A strong background in cellular and molecular biology techniques including:

  • Mammalian tissue culture
  • siRNA and plasmid transfection into mammalian cells
  • Western blotting and immune/co-immunoprecipitation
  • preparation of samples to be used for ChIP-/RNA- sequencing
  • Immunofluorescence
  • Magnetic activated cell sorting
  • Flow cytometry

Develop, design and conduct complex research experiments:

  • Develop new techniques; formulate methods, recommend improvements/solutions
  • Collect data and conduct analysis, interpret and implement research methodology; evaluate results
  • Monitor progress and refine or adapt methodologies

Ability to work independently without immediate supervision; evaluate courses of action and make decisions.

Co-author publications and co-present results at meetings/conferences

Mentor and teach students and junior trainees.

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in health science discipline
  • 4 – 5 years of research experience in a related field
  • Experience mentoring and teaching students and junior trainees
  • Independent decision making
  • Highly organized in record keeping and technically meticulous

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. preferred
  • Experience with Excel, PRISM, or STATA

Background Screening
